There is a saying that hard cases make bad law which is when judges bend the law to help a sympathetic victim but in doing so open the flood gates for bad actors to exploit this for malicious reasons.

I thought of this when being shown the case of a man jailed for eight years for supposedly running a campaign online to recruit support for an action against a judge he thought had abused him.

As it happens he deserved everything he got for the way in which he went about it and was actually jailed for contempt of court rather than for the stalking and harassment but I can just see myself being a victim of that new open door, just for having the temerity to run this campaign on change.org.
