We have good news but the fight is far from over!

The council has secured £890,000 of funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy to finish and fit out the new library building, called Pump House, in South Norwood. So we will have a library, on Station Road SE25, in the middle of our community.

That said, there are many question marks around staffing and funding of the library provision, as well as the future of the brutalist library building, which has been so thoughtfully built in the late 1960s for community purposes.

So what is going to happen? Stage 2 of the consultation is going to begin towards the end of May, and three options will be put to the community by the council about the library service.

We are yet to find out the council's plans for the current library building and will watch this closely, as we do not want to see this brutalist gem sold off to the highest bidder!

Our blog post about the second phase of the consultation can be found here https://www.friendsofsouthnorwoodlibrary.org/post/the-very-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly
