The Issue

Kevin Sinfield CBE is a former Leeds Rhinos captain and rugby league legend who has become one of Britain's greatest modern-day heroes, through his extraordinary dedication to the Motor Neurone Disease community.

In memory of Rob Burrow, it's time to recognise Kevin with the honour he truly deserves.

Since 2020, Kevin has completed six gruelling fundraising challenges, raising over £15 million for MND charities. His friend and former teammate Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND in December 2019 and sadly passed away in June 2024 at the age of 41. Kevin's unwavering loyalty and friendship inspired the nation and gave hope to thousands of families living with this devastating disease.

His achievements include:

  • Running seven ultra-marathons in seven consecutive days, not once but six times
  • Overcoming an 80mph storm and a torn leg muscle to complete his December 2024 challenge
  • Raising over £1.3 million in his most recent "Running Home for Christmas" challenge alone
  • Supporting the building of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND at Leeds Hospital
  • Giving a voice and visibility to the 5,000 people living with MND in the UK

Kevin embodies the very best of British values: teamwork, dedication, humility, and selfless service to others. He has already been awarded an MBE (2014), OBE (2021), and CBE (2024) - but these extraordinary efforts demand the nation's highest recognition.

However, there's a barrier: Honours protocol reportedly requires a three-year gap between upgrades, meaning Kevin cannot be knighted until at least 2027. Many, including Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle, are calling for this rule to be waived in Kevin's exceptional case.

The words 'legend' and 'hero' are often handed out, but Kevin Sinfield truly embodies them both. He's not doing this for recognition - he's doing it because he cares deeply about the MND community and honouring his friend Rob's legacy.

Let's show Kevin that his nation stands with him. Sign this petition to urge the Honours Committee to recognise Sir Kevin Sinfield for his remarkable service to humanity.
