Criminalize Harassment of Furries and Therians

The Issue

Growing up as a Therian in my elementary school, I have experienced bullying firsthand. The taunts and verbal abuse I face are not only hurtful but also dehumanizing. This is an issue faced by many among the Furry and Therian communities, particularly young individuals trying to navigate through school with a sense of belonging and self-identity. As I transition to middle school, the fear of facing similar harassment lingers, making it even more crucial to address this issue.

Furries and Therians are individuals who express themselves through animal personas and identify with non-human creatures. This harmless form of self-expression is often misunderstood, leading to ridicule. Despite our different way of identifying, we yearn for acceptance and understanding from peers, educators, and the wider community.

Current laws do not adequately protect Furries and Therians from harassment. Without repercussion, those who verbally abuse, belittle us, and physically attack us continue their hateful statements unchallenged. It is time to send a strong message that verbal abuse and harassment against Furries and Therians are unacceptable and will be met with legal consequences.

Introducing legislation that defines and criminalizes the harassment of Furries and Therians is essential. By categorizing such actions as hate speech or hate crimes, offenders can be held accountable. This will not only deter further harassment but will also foster a more inclusive environment where everyone is free to express themselves without fear of ridicule or abuse.

Encouraging schools to implement more anti-bullying programs specifically addressing the harassment of Furries and Therians can play a significant role. Educators should be trained to recognize and combat such bullying, creating a safe space for all students, irrespective of their identity, And not be told to,“Leave it at home” by educators.

Sign this petition to demand immediate action from legislators and institutions to protect Furries and Therians from harassment and abuse. Join us in our fight for understanding, respect, and a safe community for everyone.
