Hi everyone,
Its been a while since we last updated you but that’s not because we have given up on fighting for change, on the contrary…
Earlier this year, we reached out to RoadPeace, a charity that supports victims and their families of road deaths and injuries. Our main contact has been an amazing lady called Rebecca who, with the RoadPeace team is working incredibly hard for change.
I may have mentioned in a previous post that Justice4ourlillie - Lillie’s Law has been discussed in parliament and we thought it was going well. Finally, we were being listened too. Then the cabinet changed! Since then, despite our efforts, and that of our local MP, we have heard nothing.
Thankfully, through RoadPeace, we were invited to take part in their campaign, ‘Fix Our Broken Justice System’, along with other families with the same or similar heartbreaking stories.
Debbie, Lillie’s mummy and I have had the privilege of meeting some of these families and learning their painful stories really only makes us more determined to fight for change.
A small group of us will actually be on BBC breakfast new next week and have been given the opportunity to talk about our loved ones and the tragic circumstances in which they lost their lives. Also, the insulting sentences their killers were given.
Unfortunately, losing a loved one is not all we have in common with these amazing and determined families. Each and everyone of us feel our broken justice system needs to change.
We don’t understand why killing whilst driving under the influence doesn’t carry a higher sentence. Even 14 years, which is what our Lillie’s killer was given, reduces down to just over 5 years once discounts are applied and percentages deducted. It’s ridiculous! Charlie Hilton will serve around 5 years and 6 months for killing Lillie and causing serious injury to 3 others. How on earth can that be called justice?
And of course, the fact each and everyone one of those killers will be allowed to drive and on our roads again in a few years!
Having had the pleasure of talking to other families, it would seem in some cases, in fact, all, the sentencing was an insult to the lives of these beautiful people who were killed so tragically and far too soon.
If you can? Please watch the BBC news or, follow Justice4ourlillie socials, we will post the link
Sorry it’s short, we wanted you all to know, we are still fighting and with your support, the support of RoadPeace and other families, we will do everything we can to fix our broken justice system.
Thank you all for following us, we really appreciate your comments and emails.
If you shared our petition, can we ask you to do it again? Without your support we would not have hit 26,000 signatures. Please remind people to verify their email. Change.org only send one reminder and if that goes in someone’s junk, their signature won’t be counted.
We have asked them to help and send a reminder email but unfortunately, they said they can’t.
Thank you all… take care and look after one another. Tell your loved ones you love them, kiss them and hug them. Tomorrow isn’t promised.
Lillie’s family xx
