Creation of a Live Action Eighth Doctor TV Series (Doctor Who)

Creation of a Live Action Eighth Doctor TV Series (Doctor Who)
The Issue
2026 is an important year for Doctor Who fans. Not only does it mark the 20th Anniversary of David Tennant's first series as The Tenth Doctor and 60 years of Patrick Troughton as The Second Doctor but this year marks 30 years since one night in May 1996 when we saw the Beginning of Paul McGann's tenure as the Eighth Doctor
However since 27th May 1996. The Eighth Doctor has had less than 2 Hours of Screen Time (If you combine the TV Movie Run, 2013's Night of The Doctor & 2022's Power of The Doctor). Whilst Many can Argue we have had far more Eighth Doctor adventures (Thanks to the dilligant work of the outstanding creatives of Comic Book creators & the talented audio work of Big Finish Productions) to the degree Paul McGann's time as The Eighth Doctor is sometimes nicknames "The Longest & The Shortest" it is still mine and many other fans opinion that he needs another chance on screen.
In the aftermath of 2013's Night of The Doctor a petition (which gained over 20,000 signatures) admirably tried (and unfortunately failed) to garner the BBC's attention for a series but I hope this time it can be different. Having even recently spoken to the Eighth Doctor Paul McGann himself at a recent comic convention. his love for the character and desire to play him on screen is still there.
If this campaign is successful I'd like to propose the following points which makes such a series viable:
- Keeps the Whoniverse Relevant allowing fans more stories
- It brings new fans into the classic era. By introducing them to a Classic Era Doctor it allows new fans to explore further into the show
- New Ideas from new creatives: From Monsters & Villains to planets and as yet used time zones we could see new writers get a chance to make their mark in television.
- A chance for new companions: Whether they visit the Eighth Doctor's audio companions or bring in a new face to travel in the Tardis it could be a chance for fans to meet characters.
- A True Celebration of The Eighth Doctor. The 1996 Movie (as of 2026) would have had it's 9th Release to public audiences. ( VHS in 1996, DVD releases in 2001, 2007, 2010 & 2013, Blu-Ray in 2016, Streaming in 2019 & 2023 and Finally the 4K in 2026) there's only so many times fans can see a version of this Eighth Doctor content
- A Chance to face old Foes: From the Daleks & The Cybermen to Sontarans & Silurians it would be a chance to see the Eighth Doctor face classic foes as well as new monsters
Fans have shown desire to see this happen for a while and hopefully this petitionwil stand as a chance to see the Eighth Doctor finally get a chance to flourish on screen just as his counterparts have had.
