The City of Ottawa is allowing renewable energy development in "Rural Countryside" according to the new Official Plan and is developing new zoning bylaws. Grid-scale or industrial wind turbines do produce noise pollution and can disturb sleep, leading to long-term health impacts. The new bylaws MUST have appropriate setback distances between industrial wind turbines and homes in rural communities. We propose a setback of 2 km as a reasonable distance for health and safety. New zoning bylaws will be released by September, so we must act now to emphasize the need to protect health.
