Create more treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnancy
The Issue
During my pregnancy, I faced unimaginable challenges due to a severe condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). For 20 grueling weeks, I experienced relentless vomiting that led to the erosion of my stomach lining, burnt out my oesophagus, and led to me bringing up bowls of blood. This debilitating condition left me physically exhausted and emotionally drained, struggling to maintain daily activities and feeling isolated in my experience.
Hyperemesis gravidarum is not just morning sickness. It is an extreme form of nausea and vomiting that can lead to severe dehydration, weight loss, and other serious health complications for both the mother and the unborn child. Despite its dangerous implications, there is still a significant lack of awareness and resources dedicated to treating this condition effectively.
According to the HER Foundation, it affects around 0.5% to 2% of pregnant women, which is a significant number when considering global birth rates. However, many healthcare providers are still under-informed about HG, leading to misdiagnosis or inadequate treatment.
Healthcare systems must prioritize the development of comprehensive treatment plans for HG that cater to the unique needs of every patient. This includes increasing funding for research to understand the root causes of HG, improving existing medical protocols, and providing adequate training for healthcare professionals to recognize and treat HG effectively.
We also need to raise public awareness to dismantle misconceptions surrounding HG and support women who endure this condition. Personal stories shared on platforms like social media could help break the silence and provide solace for those navigating similar journeys.
By signing this petition, you are helping to amplify voices demanding change and calling for urgent action from medical institutions and policymakers. Together, we can ensure that no woman has to suffer in silence and that every patient receives the care and support they deserve during pregnancy.
