I am proposing a new accessible entry/exit point onto platform 5 (trains to Highbury&Islington/London Bridge) at New Cross Gate Station for the benefit of the local community.

The ease of access that a new, safety conscious entry point on platform 5 will deliver not only supports those with disabilities but also benefits parents with prams, those with physical disabilities, and anyone who finds navigating congested areas a challenge. Creating an accessible tap in/out entry and exit point at New Cross Gate Station, specifically on the west side of platform 5, would speed up travel for those coming from the West or through the retail park and make a substantial difference, benefitting locals, visitors and local businesses alike.

Currently, the main entrance can become congested during rush hour, but also involves a large flight of stairs or long wait for the lift, making it difficult for many people to access the station quickly and safely. This can be particularly challenging for individuals who require a little extra time or space, leading to frustrating and sometimes dangerous situations. By opening a new access point near TK Maxx, B&M, and Sainsbury’s retail park, we can reduce congestion while promoting significantly easier and safer access for everyone.

Moreover, this development would also inspire economic benefits for our community, drawing increased footfall towards local businesses in the retail park. As the area would become more accessible, local shops would likely experience a boost in customers, contributing to a thriving local economy.

The importance of improving station accessibility safely cannot be overstated. It will speed up station access, promote inclusivity, allowing everyone to travel with dignity and ease.
