Pitch for a New Free Speech Game Mode in Call of Duty
A Proposal for a New Opt-In Free Speech Game Mode for Adults
I’m reaching out with a proposal that could enhance the Call of Duty community experience and offer a unique space for mature players. Having been part of the Call of Duty community since the Black Ops II days, I’ve seen how the multiplayer environment has evolved. While it’s crucial to maintain a welcoming space for all players, there’s also a significant demand for a more free-form, no-holds-barred environment for adults.
I am proposing a new, opt-in game mode exclusively for players aged 18 and older. This mode would allow for unrestricted free speech, where players agree to a contract acknowledging the nature of the communication environment. This would allow players to engage in the kind of competitive, high-energy banter that many long-time fans miss, without impacting the broader, younger audience.
I understand the need for a safe environment for younger players. However, this proposed mode would be a completely opt-in, adults-only environment where players explicitly agree to allow all forms of speech. The core principle is to provide a space where players can express themselves freely—no matter how harsh or controversial the language—within the context of a competitive game. This is not intended to promote negativity but to allow its players to engage in unfiltered, high-energy competition, knowing everyone has consented to the environment.
Players must verify age to access this mode and A contract acknowledging the nature of the communication environment.Reporting would be limited to extreme violations (e.g., actual threats), ensuring a free but safe environment.
This mode would offer a haven for adult players who miss the raw, competitive banter that was a hallmark of earlier multiplayer experiences, fostering a community of like-minded players. It would also alleviate pressure on general servers, reducing reports and creating a more positive experience for all.
On Another Note I also want to highlight a significant concern within the community. It seems contradictory that in-game content such as marijuana-themed characters and skins can be purchased and used by underage players, often through their parents' credit cards. This raises concerns about promoting drug paraphernalia to kids. Meanwhile, adult players are restricted from engaging in free speech within a dedicated, opt-in environment. This disparity seems unfair and inconsistent.
Implementing a robust age verification system for the free speech mode, rather than just relying on a simple age check, could ensure that only consenting adults participate. This would create a more consistent and fair approach to content and community standards within the game.
Please create a way for players to be themselves, like the old days and not make this censorship a choice of the concerned employees, but of the people who miss the freedom of what the mulitplayer game was built on through our community.
