Life can change in an instant, and during times of medical emergencies or end-of-life situations, the rights of a spouse should be unequivocally recognized and respected. My own experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. My husband was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. It was a traumatic time as his family, despite knowing the authenticity of our marriage, questioned my legal rights over his medical and posthumous affairs.
