Democracy demands accountability from its leaders. In India, it's not uncommon to elect leaders based on their promises during campaigns, however, there's no clear system to hold them accountable for failing to fulfill these promises.

Our petition requests the establishment of a performance-based system for elected leaders in India. This system would operate on a points basis or disqualification system based on the ratio of promises made to promises kept. Leaders failing to uphold their commitments could face restrictions on contesting further elections, engendering greater responsibility and transparency in their offices.

Alarmingly, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, only 59% of the promises made by the ruling party in its previous election manifesto were fully implemented. This highlights the need for a system that ensures greater accountability from our elected representatives.

The future of India is contingent on the integrity of its public officials. By establishing a system to hold them accountable, we can strive towards a more transparent, dependable, and effective democratic process.
