The Issue

When I think back on my teenage years, they are clouded with memories of weekends spent drinking. It was never a challenge to obtain alcohol; all we needed was an adult willing to make the trip to a nearby store. In many ways, alcohol had become an unspoken yet dominating force in social gatherings. This is not the future I want for our children. I envision a community where alcohol does not dictate the way we socialize or celebrate.

An increasing number of studies highlight the detrimental effects of early alcohol exposure. According to the World Health Organization, alcohol contributes to over 3 million deaths annually, many of which are preventable. Allowing our teenagers to have easy access to alcohol puts them at a greater risk of developing long-term health problems, addiction, and engaging in risky behaviors.

We have the power to shape the environment for the next generation by creating a non-alcoholic dependent community. This does not mean eliminating alcohol entirely but promoting spaces where it is not the main attraction. We can create environments in community centers, schools, and at public events where alcohol is not served or is available only alongside healthy, alcohol-free alternatives.

Our community can lead by example by organizing alcohol-free events like sober community parties, workshops, and family gatherings to offer wholesome alternatives. Such initiatives will not only provide diverse social engagement opportunities but also empower the youth to value connections made out of mutual interests rather than inebriation. Limit liquor sales to 3pm and beer sales to 9pm. Dry Sundays and encourage self imposed ABV restrictions to slow current alcoholism abuse. We can't stop them from drinking but we don't need to keep making it easy. We don't need to teach our children it's normal.

By signing this petition, you are taking a step towards a balanced future, supporting a vision that encourages healthier lifestyle choices and ensures that alcohol isn't the centerpiece of every gathering. Together, let's build a legacy where future generations can thrive in an environment free from alcohol dependency and enjoy social connections without the specter of substance dominance.

Please sign this petition to help us create this healthier and more inclusive community for our children and generations to come.
