Create a National Abuse Registry - because survivors deserve safety, not silence
The Issue
I was hurt. Not just emotionally but deeply, systemically. And I’m not alone.
Every day, survivors of abuse are forced to rebuild their lives while their abusers walk free, often able to move on and harm again. There’s no warning system. No accountability trail. No national registry that tells the truth. But there should be.
If we track sex offenders, why don’t we track convicted abusers?
This petition is calling for the creation of a National Abuser Registry; a searchable, government-run database where people can look up individuals convicted of domestic violence, assault, or related abuse charges.
This registry would help protect survivors, support families, and hold repeat offenders accountable.
We aren’t asking for privacy invasions. We’re asking for transparency and safety. This registry would:
Help survivors know who they’re living near or dating. Protect children from known abusers in custody battles or care arrangements.
Prevent repeat harm by allowing the public access to documented convictions.
Empower people-especially women and children-to make informed decisions about who they allow into their lives.
Why This Matters:
1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Every minute, nearly 20 people are abused by a partner-over 10 million people a year.
Many convicted abusers re-offend, sometimes targeting new victims within weeks of release. Survivors have no easy way to find out if someone in their lives has a violent past.
Without a registry, abusers can move across cities or states, leaving new communities vulnerable and keeping survivors in constant fear.
My Story: I started this petition because I’m a survivor. I know the fear that stays in your body after abuse. I know what it’s like to never feel safe again. I know the exhaustion of being strong for everyone else while you’re still healing. The constant survival mode.
What I Need From You: If you believe in protecting survivors If you’ve ever feared for your safety-or known someone who has… If you believe justice shouldn’t disappear after a court date…
Please sign this petition. Share it. Post it. Talk about it. Your voice has power. Let’s use it to build a safer world-one where silence doesn’t win.
