Dear Deputy Mayor McKelvie and members of City Council,

The City of Toronto is growing and the decisions we make today will shape the city we live in tomorrow. The Davenport Diamond Guideway project eliminates at-grade rail tracks that are a barrier between the Junction Triangle and Wallace-Emerson neighbourhoods. Bolstering this project with a pedestrian path between Lappin Ave and Antler Street can maximize community benefits by:

  • Providing a safer and shorter route for elementary students to reach Perth Junior School and St. Luigi Catholic School.
  • Creating a safer and more direct connection between the Lappin/Hallam cycling route and the West Toronto Rail Path.
  • Making it easier for more people to reach valuable neighbourhood amenities like the Wallace-Emerson Recreation Centre, Perth/Dupont Library, Campbell Park, and so many cafes, restaurants and shops!

Additionally, creating a path between Lappin Ave and Antler Street supports the vision and principles of the Official Plan. The City’s role is to integrate environmental, social and economic perspectives in decision-making. We need to see the connections between infrastructure investments and community benefits, and seize these opportunities to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle across Toronto. This path is a small investment that can make a huge difference to the everyday lives of people who live, work and play in the Junction Triangle.

I urge you to consider the tremendous benefit this motion will have on the local and wider community and ask that you vote in support of it.

Thank you for your consideration,
