Hi neighbors,

We’ve got three pieces of encouraging news to share — and a word about next steps.

1. On Friday, our local councillor Alejandra Bravo posted a press release demonstrating her commitment to make the Antler-Lappin path happen.

“I’m ready to work with Metrolinx and explore all available tools to make the Antler-Lappin connection a reality,” she wrote. “At the next meeting of Toronto City Council, I will be moving a motion to affirm support for a connection between Antler Street and Lappin Avenue, renew dialogue between the City of Toronto and Metrolinx on this issue, and examine all tools at the City’s disposal to move this project forward.”

We’re grateful for the support of our local councillor in addressing this issue. You can read the full press release here.

2. Our campaign got coverage by CBC and BlogTO

Yesterday, CBC Toronto published a great story about our efforts to get a path created. In the story, Councillor Bravo reaffirmed her commitment to make the path happen. Disappointingly, however, both Metrolinx and City staff said it’s the other who should be responsible for creating the path.

Metrolinx said the path is not within their project’s “scope,” despite their initial promise it would be. They said they were open to working with the city should the city decide to fund the path.

City staff, for their part, said to get a path created, “an agreement would need to be made between Metrolinx and the commercial property owner.” Read more here.

Our campaign also got covered by BlogTO in a story with the animated headline “Angry locals say Metrolinx broke a promise with Toronto’s new elevated rail line.” We’re thinking of getting hats made with ANGRY LOCALS printed on them ;)

3. Our petition hit over 1,100 signatures!

Wow! Thanks so much to everyone who has signed and shared this petition. Your support has helped send a clear signal to Metrolinx and the City that we want to see this path. Please keep sharing with your neighbors and friends.

Next steps…

Councillor Bravo said she’ll move a motion about the path at City Council’s next meeting, which happens in June. We can send letters to accompany the motion. In the coming days, we’ll send a note to let you know how to send a letter to show your support.

Thank you!
