Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain of African continent, but it is plagued with issues that threaten its beauty and the livelihood of the people who depend on it. Porters, who are essential to any trekking expedition, are being treated unethically. They endure harsh working conditions, receive low pay, and lack basic protections. Many of them, despite their hard work, struggle to make ends meet. 

Furthermore, the glaciers on Kilimanjaro are rapidly melting due to climate change, altering the ecosystem and diminishing the mountain's unique appeal. The local flora and fauna, adapted to these conditions over centuries, are now under threat. These environmental challenges are exacerbated by the increase in tourism, which, without proper regulation, can lead to further degradation.

To address these pressing issues, there is a pressing need for a dedicated governance body. Such a body could establish fair labor standards for porters, implement environmental protections, and ensure sustainable tourism practices. By creating a structured governance framework, we can safeguard Kilimanjaro for future generations while supporting the local communities who depend on it.

I appeal to the Tanzanian government and international stakeholders to recognize the urgency of the situation and combine our efforts to establish a governance body. Together, we can create a sustainable path forward for Kilimanjaro, balancing human needs with environmental integrity.
