Why does this matter to me personally? It's an important question. I remember coming home to the scenes of the Columbine shooting on tv. I broke down at the thought of it in tears. I asked myself all those years ago, what can I do? How can I help prevent this from happening? I am still figuring this out. But here is what I know. This is a crisis for all of us. A recent WSJ article speaks about the horror survivors face, often alone in the months and years after these tragedies.

"there's just no timeline for recovery" quoted from the article here. We may never have a 'timeline for recovery' but we can, as a society, provide a better path forward.

My hope with this petition is to start a new path a new way forward that gives our society tools to thrive again, tools to walk a path of healing in our collective grief, and tools to have honest conversations, that lead to thoughtful, caring prevention. All our lives have been altered by these events, instead of carrying these wounds alone as so many survivors are, let's engage, let's mourn and remember, let's heal together.
