Why start a petition to get a Federally recognized School Shooting Memorial Day?

I started a petition yesterday, not expecting anyone would join. But people are joining. So I need to take the next step and answer the question why.

Because we the people are grieving. Because the narratives are wrong. Because this is a violence that injures all of us, especially the innocents whose lives are taken and their families left shattered. Because we need to stop looking away and letting this continue. Because, someday, I hope this memorial will no longer be a living memorial, but one that memorializes past events and that we can come together to heal, to honor, and to change our society through the common ground of grief.
