I did note a comment about why we seem so focussed on talking about the government, rather than any other political party’s silence. We are apolitical, but we long decided the focus on attention had to be the people who were making the decisions that affected our lives at the time and continue to. That is the people currently in power. While we could love to be in a position where we can meet and ask all political parties about what they would do for us, we are a very small organisation without much political clout, as well as being unwell, so we are focusing on trying to raise awareness in the media. Rest assured that we do write to politicians across the political spectrum, raising these issues!

Here is C’s story:
“Caught covid at work NHS in first week of April 2020. Was relocated from specialist nurse role to help on the wards.
Had minimal PPE and nearly all the nursing staff got covid in the first few weeks of the pandemic, but none of it was recorded on a RIDDOR!
Reality of it was I haven’t fully recovered.
The term long covid wasn’t even known and I ended up having a severe depression in the autumn 2020 due to all these symptoms that just didn’t get better!
I feel abandoned by my work as I’m now “unreliable” and have had a huge amount of sick time.
After 30 years as a nurse my future looks uncertain. There is no support for nurses that caught this virus at work with poor PPE and now we are losing our jobs with minimal financial support!
I am a single parent with 3 kids how am I supposed to survive?
It’s a shocking situation and I’m scared for my future.”
We wish we could tell you that C’s story is unusual, but it isn’t. Careers ruined. Jobs lost. Families with very real uncertainty for the future. We also see the stories in the comments section.
