Hello everyone,
I'd like to start with a huge thank you to all the petition supporters. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and the petition, or simply signing the petition, this does mean a lot.
Also, sorry for my lack of updates, I am not really sure what I should be telling you all.
I did have a chat with both Dr Rowan and Cr Kate Richards. Both are aware of the problems facing cyclists in our area and have some ideas for improving safety, but there is nothing planned for the foreseeable future.
In retrospect, maybe the petition should have been more focussed on the idea of preventing cyclists from using any road that is categorised as an arterial road, such as Moggill road, since they are clearly too dangerous for cyclists and too many motorists do not have the patience to deal with bicycles on main roads. In my opinion, bicycles should not be allowed to use any road that has a 60Km/Hr or over. This would be the stimulus for providing safe cycle tracks that do not utilise existing high speed transport corridors which are not only physically dangerous, but have high concentrations of toxic fumes, so the environment is very bad for cyclists.
I think this petition shows that there is good local support for the idea of improving cycle safety, but there is a long way to go in our region before this becomes a reality.
Thanks again.
Alan
