Dear Friends and Neighbors,
On Monday, August 12th at 1:30 PM, the Bonner County Commissioners will hold a crucial hearing at 1500 Hwy 2, Sandpoint. This hearing will determine whether the Linscott gravel pit will be reclassified from a nonconforming use to Mixed Use.
This decision could have major long-term impacts on our community.
Why This Matters:
The Linscotts have operated under nonconforming land use status since 1981. Over the years, they’ve expanded beyond what’s legally allowed. Now, instead of enforcing limits on further expansion, this proposed land use change would open the door to even broader development, including potential industrial uses.
We believe the nonconforming status should remain in place—not expanded. Nonconforming use laws are designed to protect neighbors and communities from inappropriate or excessive development, not to enable more of it.
What You Can Do:
Write the County Commissioners — There’s still time to make your voice heard before they vote:

Attend the Hearing — Show up in person or join via Zoom:

Speak or Show Support — When public comment opens, please raise your hand (virtually or in person) and express opposition to the Mixed Use designation for the Linscott parcel. Even a simple statement like, “I oppose the change to Mixed Use on nonconforming land,” makes a difference.
Of course, speak from the heart — but most importantly, show up, be present, and let them know you care.
This is a pivotal moment. Let’s make sure our community’s voice is heard.
