Two ex-Hunton lawyers were forced to resign from Trump’s EPA this April for unethically promoting a Hunton client’s effort to roll back clean air rules.
Hunton routinely lobbies for the Koch Bros. and defends industry polluters and that’s where Mike Victorino and Corp Counsel’s Moana Lutey are getting their strategy to falsely claim the authority to overrule the Council’s vote to settle the case.
Maui’s “other” lawyers, at Council Services, say Mayor Victorino is exaggerating his authority by citing Honolulu’s charter not Maui’s Charter, which adds additional authority to settle a disagreement with the Mayor through a Council vote.
Representing several private parties, including state Rep. Angus McKelvey, Wailuku attorney Anthony Ranken says he’ll be filing a lawsuit this week to compel the Mayor to honor the Council’s vote and withdraw from the Supreme Court.
