From the Recall Bonin 2021 People:

Today the committee to recall Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin became official.

Last week we sent a process server to Mike Bonin’s house to deliver a Notice of Intent to Recall personally signed by each of us as recall proponents on behalf of tens of thousands of his constituents who have had enough of his failed policies and broken promises. Today a copy of that same Notice of Intent to Recall was published in the L.A. Daily News. And today we submitted the forms for “Recall Bonin 2021” to be registered with the California Secretary of State and the City of Los Angeles as the official recall committee sponsoring this effort in Council District 11.

We will begin circulating recall petitions and collecting signatures as soon as Mike Bonin provides his response and the Los Angeles City Clerk approves the format for our recall petition, which we expect will happen sometime in July.

You also probably saw Mike Bonin’s latest PR stunt earlier this week to announce his grand “plan” and promise to remove the homeless encampments on the Venice Boardwalk by August. Well, yesterday the Los Angeles City Council delayed the vote on allocating funding for Mike Bonin’s $5 million dollar “plan” until early July. See:
https://mynewsla.com/crime/2021/06/23/la-city-council-delays-vote-on-funding-to-house-venice-homeless-campers/

It should come as no surprise that this grand “plan” by Mike Bonin was only announced AFTER Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva’s deployment of county law enforcement officers to the Venice Boardwalk, and AFTER Mike Bonin was served with our Notice of Intent to Recall last week. Our Councilmember should have been listening to his constituents and working to fix these and other problems that have been facing our community for years.

As usual, Bonin’s “plan” doesn’t adequately address how the requirement for unhoused individuals to leave the Boardwalk encampment by a certain date would be enforced. He has also not provided an actual plan or budget, just more lip service and a request for taxpayer dollars to give to his buddies. We fully expect this “plan” to become another example of failed policies and broken promises that our community has seen time and again since he took office as our representative on the Los Angeles City Council back in July of 2013.

Yesterday, Nico Ruderman, one of the five recall proponents and an officer of the nonprofit organization sponsoring the recall committee, appeared on the John & Ken Show on KFI AM-640 to talk about this latest proposal by Mike Bonin, and provide an update about the Recall Bonin 2021 effort. If you missed it, you can listen to it here: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/john-and-ken-on-demand-20635765/episode/john-ken-show-hour-2-84050598/

We need your help, and we need it today. If you didn’t get a chance to respond to the questionnaire we sent out last night, please click HERE to let us know how you are willing to specifically support this recall effort -- whether it is as a donor, or as a volunteer who is willing to help circulate recall petitions door-to-door to your friends and neighbors, spend a few hours volunteering at a booth or recall petition signing location starting in late July, or serve as one of our local neighborhood coordinators, or help us connect with and build partnerships with other community groups and organizations, or assist us with fundraising or marketing efforts, or volunteer as an advocate for the recall effort on social media, or to talk about the reasons you are supporting this recall effort in interviews with the local press.

And please pitch in at www.recallbonin2021.com/contribute to give what you can to help support this recall effort. We may not have the deep pockets or the political connections of a career politician like Mike Bonin, but our local, grassroots effort has something far more powerful -- we have people like you who support this effort, people like you who have been impacted on a personal and even a daily basis by the failed policies and broken promises of our City Councilman, and people like you who want to hold Mike Bonin accountable.

Your generous donation today will help the www.recallbonin2021.com committee cover the costs of collecting signatures and defend against recall petition legal challenges, purchase signs and pay for advertising and mailers, and do what is necessary to urge our fellow citizens to vote “YES” on the question of whether Mike Bonin should be recalled from public office.

If you would prefer to support the broader community organizing efforts and public policy initiatives of the recall committee’s sponsoring organization, Protecting Our Beaches Schools Neighborhoods And Parks, and not have your donation reported as a contribution designated for the recall effort, you can mail a check to “POBSNAP” at 313 Grand Blvd. #1677, Venice, CA 90294 or donate at www.pobsnap.org

Please click HERE to let us know what you are willing to do to help the effort to recall Mike Bonin.
