Save Larchmont Farmers' Market

The Issue

Councilmember Ryu has agreed to halt construction on the proposed playground project at 209 North Larchmont Blvd. in order to gather more community input. There is currently a public meeting set for March 14th, but we know the community of stakeholders reaches far beyond those who may actually be able to join in person that day.

By signing this petition, you are adding your support to the growing coalition of neighbors, community members, and Larchmont Farmers' Market stakeholders who are in favor of ending this project.

We are lucky to have a beautiful neighborhood park a few blocks from Larchmont on Van Ness & Beverly, and we are sure that other neighborhoods in CD4 are in greater need of city investment and play space. We are all in favor of more safe and accessible community spaces, but this proposal does not get us any closer to that goal. The safety issues alone that are involved in putting a children's play space in an active parking lot on a busy commercial street are enough to oppose this project. If you add in the risk of this plan compromising a beloved community asset: the Larchmont Farmers' Market, the plan is not a viable one. Furthermore, we have been troubled to learn that this plan was a product of backdoor decision-making that falsely claimed to reflect the interests of the community but did not.

I stand with my fellow neighborhood stakeholders in urging Councilmember Ryu to reject this plan, keep Larchmont safe for LA's kids, protect the continued viability of the Larchmont Farmers' Market, and commit to transparently addressing the needs of our broader Larchmont community going forward.
