Correct the Misspelled Name of an Ohio Creek

The Issue

Correct the misspelling of "Tildens Run".

Although the community of Renrock, Ohio disappeared in the early 1960's, the families that made-up Renrock can still be remembered by the names of natural landmarks in the area.  But when a family's name is misspelled on official government maps, it's not only an annoying mistake, it also erases part of the local history and heritage.  That's what has happened for the last 60+ years to one former Renrock family.

The creek presently called "Tiltons Run" flows from Muskingum County into Noble County; converging with Dyes Fork near the vanished community of Renrock.  Its name was changed to Tiltons Run in 1963 shortly after the Ohio Power Company (now AEP Ohio) bought up the land around Renrock.  Unfortunately, the family that owned the land that surrounds most of the creek's run through Noble County were the "Tildens". They had owned and farmed that land for over a century - since 1830.

The US Geological Survey agency is responsible for ensuring the accurate spelling of natural landmark names.  Yet they erred back in 1963 when they sought to honor the pioneering Tilden family by renaming the creek.

This petition seeks to correct the spelling error by asking the USGS to change the spelling of Tiltons Run to Tildens Run.

By signing this petition, you're lending your voice to the cause, and advocating for the preservation of the local character and history of SE Ohio.

This creek's name tells a story and by having it misspelled, we risk losing a piece of Renrock's communal identity.  Help rectify this error and restore dignity to a local landmark.  Please sign and share this petition.

Thank you.
