There’s a Facebook site full of stories and messages documenting the increasing vandalism happening across the Duchy; it’s called: STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF CORNWALL NOW

Here are some excerpts:

Message from Sarah in Breage:
Got back on the Thursday evening, opened post the Friday Morning to discover.... Punch Taverns are appealing against the two previous refusals to their planning applications to build 5 houses in one of the four fields (this one as part of the curtilage to the Public House, the Queen's Arms) but is in the triangle of 4 fields which are in the UNESCO World Mining Heritage and Conservation Area.
Great here we go again. If we lose this which as a village we are really determined not to, it will be the death knoll for other UNESCO, SSI and Conservation Areas. Don't see them letting anyone building on English UNESCO sites, I quite fancy a bungalow over looking Stone Henge, wouldn't be really lovely? Could stash a few caravans there in the garden and let people park their tents there for 28 days too.

In Portreath, Theresa exclaims:
Out on my hike today, saw this concrete box high up on lighthouse hill. Portreath. Just been built. On a previous hike i was talking to my partner about how ugly it was, and how it should be bulldozed etc not realising that the builders were listening to everything I said!

Comments re. new Portreath monstrosity:
Horrible looking place is that someones house. Looks like a water works treatment building or something similar

I think it's a holiday let but yeah, it does look like a water treatment building!

I thought it was a shipping container

On the sky line????? Dreadful, what are Cornwall Planners thinking of?

Looks like a shipping container conversion! So sad to think this is actually a permanent construction. I'll bet whichever 'architect' claims to have 'designed' this for their tasteless clients is laughing all the way to the bank!

...and will receive an architectural award!!!!

Is it a home or some kind of industrial building? Either way not very attractive

I think it's a holiday let. They've also added high fencing all around the side of it where the car park

It looks like some sort of industrial building

Is it a toilet block? If it is Cornwall Council will soon close it.

That suggests a great name for it....."Le Pissoir". Somone ought to paint that title nicely on a board and put it on the gate. And make it bloody difficult to remove. When the old (and discarded) Cornwall Design Guide of the former Cornwall Council was current, the planners would not then have dreamed of approving this sort of hideous brutalist "design", so what the hell are our present crop of imported "planners" thinking of? They all need to be kicked back to wherever they came from. They are killing Cornwall.

Perhaps it's a pigsty - there used to be a lot up there!

That’s hideous!!! Looks like a utilities building

There’s something to be said for good design on an already existing site tho. It’s the pillaging of green fields , forests and wildlife in an already challenged sinking county

It looks like a static caravan in design lol

Oh my god so did I, it’s bloody horrible

It's at Portreath. On the Hill.

Oh look, they want our granite posts, shouldn't it be a nice plain concrete post to blend in with its surroundings?

Nah, unpainted cast aluminium.

Looks like a public toilet

I think it looks amazing. . . . . I'll get my coat

Surely not a home looks more like coastguard hut.

I would definitely open it as a car park seen it yesterday how much parking they need?

Is there a tank inside it...awful!!!

There is a few there and also two Miami painted squares going up at the back of the surf club .. they look tosh in the plans but still got passed and at local level

What I don’t get is how they build in an area because it’s beautiful, but they ruin it by building ugly houses!

Portreath has been destroyed

What the hell are they teaching architects these days? It costs thousands to go to uni to qualify, yet they all seem to be churning things out that a kid could design out of lego in primary school!

Over in St. Austell:
This is all that remains of a lovely 200yr old Cornish cottage, demolished to make way for the thousand plus matchbox houses planned for the new garden village. It would have stood for another 200 yrs which is more than can be said for it’s replacement; the Cornish stone walls are next to be wiped out .

West Cliff, Porthtowan

More buildings ..holiday homes I assume or houses for the wealthy.

More chaos!

Went to Newquay today.
Drove through a new village just out side of Newquay
It just did not fit in with all the other villages.
Just looked liked it was a film set village. All shiny new. The wrong kind of design for Cornwall. No slate used or Cornish walls built.
It had the name of Nariden. Not sure if I spelled that right.

New Apartments at Upton near Bude, Cornwall
Replacing a small bungalow that is on a blind junction.
The council disapproved these plans, however they appealed to a higher authority and got permission!!!
This development is located on the cliffs between Bude and Widemouth!
Looks awful!

Coming to this site soon!
An update on developer Kevin Christopher Heaney (formerly Cornish Homes) and how he manages to have directorships at a dozen new development companies on the go (some back in Truro), after bankruptcy proceedings in Ireland and Exeter. Will an interview request to find out how he convinced Truro City Football Club trustees to hand over their land might come to light, land that he then allegedly sold for £2m for development, to pay off debts to Lloyds Bank. And what did happen to solicitors Follett Stock's unpaid £200,000 bill? Is the crafty ginger cockney back in town, after reports of sightings at a former property in heavily developed Trispen? All questions we're eager to hear more about....
