Phil Mason has been removed as Chief Planner and is now a Cornwall Council Director:
The Economic Growth and Development directorate is headed by Strategic Director (interim) Phil Mason and includes:
Economic growth - including economic development and culture, external investment and the Local Enterprise Partnership
Transport and Infrastructure Service - including Transport Planning Strategy, integrated public transport, highways and network management and strategic transport schemes
Planning and sustainable development - including strategic planning, delivering the Local Plan, sustainable energy, sustainable growth and innovation, development management, highway development management and historic building advice
Housing service - including Housing Strategy and Partnerships, affordable housing, private sector housing, housing commissioning, Cornwall Home Solutions,
This petition, although well received and supported by many, has been perceived as too personal in nature. This was sadly a deliberate and necessary measure due to this man’s past ineptitude and complicity in the rapid destruction of Cornwall’s social and natural environment.
However, he has been removed from this post, and although he has been promoted to bigger things (!), he is no longer Cornwall’s Chief Planning Officer, so in a sense, this petition has been successful.
On this basis, we have changed the name of the petition, but we hope that it will continue to act as a watchdog for all those in senior positions of responsibility, who have the power to change the current course of Cornwall’s destructive urbanisation.
