A bleak future for Cornwall as described in last week's West Briton by one beleaguered Truronian...

Sadly, the future is very bleak for our once proud county. I wonder if I may be the only one to be taken to make a comment on the recent West Briton report of the council wanting to buy the land around Threemilestone to save the building of the planned new development. While I am sure new cheaper affordable homes are needed for many sections of our community, they are not needed for those wishing to pay a lot money from outside our county to move down here. A few weeks ago a comment was made that Cornwall was full! I believe that is true also. What is missing in the planning of such schemes is, in my view, quite obvious. Before any further developments are planned we need a new hospital in mid-Cornwall, as we are all aware of the troubles at Treliske. We require new surgeries, dentists, schools and new road schemes before we invite more people into Cornwall, as these are already full to capacity. Having worked in the energy supplies area until retirement, I am also aware of the extra demand being put on these supplies; but saying that, we all know these events will never happen because of the money required, so the council will continue to apply more and more pressure on our society until we will be at breaking point which is, in my opinion, here already. Living in Truro is a nightmare travelling in and out now, without a few thousand more on the already congested roads, and I will make no comment on what has been going on in Truro regarding that issue! As a true and proud Cornishman, the future is very bleak for our once proud county. DB Carveth, Truro
