The UK #Recognize Animals as Sentient Beings. THE USA CAN TOO
The Issue
"I live for my wife, my children and my dog." I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
The following is a description of my life near me today: I wake up knowing tethered dogs are living their sad lives dragging around heavy chains clipped onto thick collars, weighing down their small bodies. No running or jumping or playing fetch or scratching their backs on the ground. Pacing is their only exercise in a small range peripheral of dirt though the majority of their day consist of laying down. Outside in freezing or scorching temperatures, they may not survive these harsh elements. If not, a different dog will just take their place on the same chain. The cycle continues. When it rains, a pitiful mud bath is the way of cleaning themselves and their living area. At least with rain, a usually dry, parched nose is now wet. A tethered dog’s food and water source is at the mercy of those who put chains on them. If fed once a day, they’re lucky. Having a bucket of water near by, they’re lucky. For tethered dogs, there is never any consistent care, regular socializing, needed exercise, happy playtime, loving affection and basic kindness given to them. Even after living in such dire living conditions, a tethered dog is usually still a very sweet animal who simply desires positive reinforcement and attention.

In May 2021, the United Kingdom, a close USA ally, passed a law to formally recognize that Animals are Sentient Beings. They join 30+ other countries who have already done the same. People in more countries continue to take a stand towards animal sentience legislation, such as Canada.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” Maya Angelou
There are quite a few knowledgeable and studied people who can eloquently explain the sentient (feeling, living, conscious) nature of animals. One person whom I’ve followed for years is attorney Nathan Winograd and director of The No Kill Advocacy Center. I like to think of him as an intellectual, animal advocate extraordinaire. https://www.nokilladvocacycenter.org
I believe Nathan Winograd, and others like him, bring a deeply rooted foundation of Love, Empathy and Humility to what they do, starting as a humanitarian and working to build a bridge of understanding for animals as sentient beings. An article published almost two years ago highlights some of these very points addressed here:

To achieve our goal and declare federally in the USA that Animals are Sentient Beings, needed are politically powerful, like-minded people to make this movement come to fruition. Therefore, we are sending the petition to United States Senator Cory Booker and Tulsi Gabbard because their impressive life’s work and personal habits fit precisely to our cause.
Bottom Line, We Can Make It Happen in the USA!
