Thank you for signing this petition! Now, we need you to show up with us on February 13 to ensure the University High School bus service continues in 2024-25 and beyond!

On Tuesday, February 13, the Irvine City Council will review and vote on whether to continue subsidizing a school bus to Uni from neighborhoods that are 5+ miles away from campus (Quail Hill, Los Olivos, Hidden Canyon and Laguna Altura).

This might be the last time we need to plead our case before the City Council. We’re asking them to make the funding permanent, and to explore options that would better serve the needs of families, including a later morning pickup, adding a second bus, and “looping” the bus like the Rancho bus does after 6th and 7th periods.

But we cannot do it without parents to show up and speak directly to the council about why this issue is important

Why you need to show up:

  • If you used the bus in the last year, you benefited from the City Council’s decision to subsidize it. Without them, we’d have no bus. Show up to say thank you.
  • If you were waitlisted for the bus, come to say that one bus wasn’t enough. We have three buses to Rancho from our neighborhoods, and need more than one to the high school.
  • If you have an incoming 9th grader, show up to help ensure that this service continues next year. The drive to and from Uni, including navigating the parking lot, is a minimum 90 minutes of your day.
  • If you’ve had a child in a bicycle or e-bike accident, come remind the council that our kids deserve safe routes to school.
  • If you’re a working parent, show up to remind the council that a lengthy school commute is a detriment to your economic security.
  • If you live outside of the current Uni bus service area, come to urge the city to look at the broader issue of safe & sustainable routes to schools for all Irvine children.
  • If you care about the environment, come tell the council we’ll never hit our CO2 emissions goals if everyone is driving themselves to and from school.
  • If you care about traffic, remind the council that 10-14% of morning rush hour car trips are for school drop-off.

We are confident of two YES votes from the council, but need at least one more. We need your voice to help encourage the council members to support safe & sustainable routes to school.
