Consumer Rights in the Technology Field in the United Kingdom

The Issue

I know someone who purchased the NVIDIA RTX 5090. He was excited to have the best gaming GPU in the world. It was fine for about 3 months, until he left it open while he went out. When he came back, his power supply had died. The pins had melted. It almost started a fire and his room smelled like burned plastic for the next few days. Worse still, he wasn't able to get it replaced (Albeit it was because of the shipping company). He still hasn't got it replaced and given that the cheapest we can find it is over £2500.

This isn't just a one time issue. It has been reported all over the world and in the manual it specifically says they don't replace them if they break. They also don't specify safety risks, which considering they put 575W through a connector rated at 600, is a big problem.

If we don't make an effort to stop this, they will keep putting people in danger and specifying barely legal anti-consumer terms in the manual. We need to put a stop to this now.
