Construct an All-Weather Dog Park in Gowanus-Carroll Gardens Neighborhoods
The Issue
As a resident of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, I've experienced firsthand the unpredictable New York weather. When it's wet or inclement, our closest dog park becomes unusable due to its sandy and gravel nature. This is a problem that many dog owners in our neighborhood face. The number of dogs in the area has increased significantly, but sadly there hasn't been a corresponding increase in dog-friendly areas.
The proposed new developments between Gowanus and Carroll Gardens provide an excellent opportunity to address this issue. We propose the construction of an all-weather dog park as part of these developments. Such a facility would not only enhance the quality of life for our canine companions but also foster stronger community ties among residents.
According to American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), approximately 38% households own at least one dog in New York State. With such high ownership rates, it's clear that facilities like these are not just desirable - they're essential.
We urge local authorities and developers to consider this proposal seriously. By creating an all-weather dog park, we can ensure that our pets have a safe place to play and socialize no matter what Mother Nature throws at us.
Please sign this petition if you believe that our dogs deserve better! Let's make Carroll Gardens more pet-friendly together!
