As a resident and parent in Selkirk, I have seen our community grow and expand substantially over the years. However, despite this growth, we are left with limited options for entertainment and leisure activities. Many families like mine feel the need for better community-based options to engage with their children.

Our proposal is to construct a new recreation facility that includes a theatre, pool, indoor playground and gym. This would not only provide much-needed amenities for our growing population but also foster community spirit by providing spaces where people can come together.

According to Statistics Canada's 2016 Census data, Selkirk's population has increased by 7% since 2011. This growth rate is higher than the national average of 5%, indicating that our town is expanding at an impressive pace (source: Statistics Canada). Yet despite this growth rate, we lack adequate recreational facilities that cater to all age groups.

The benefits of such facilities are numerous - they promote physical health through exercise opportunities; they encourage social interaction which contributes to mental well-being; they provide safe spaces for children to play; and they can be hubs of cultural activity with theatres showcasing local talent.

We believe it's time for Selkirk to have a multi-purpose recreation facility that serves its residents' needs while fostering community spirit. Please join us in urging local government officials to invest in this much-needed infrastructure project.
