The Issue

For years, I have dwelt amongst the communities within the City of Trenton and Mercer County and have seen firsthand the inefficiencies that have come from these two separate entities operating independently. Red tape, redundancies and inconsistencies plague effective governance, hindering our collective progress towards the community we aspire to be.

Consolidation of Trenton City and Mercer County into a single government entity would eliminate redundancies, streamline our service delivery, reduce costs and truly serve the people efficiently. This is not a new concept. According to the National Association of Counties, there are currently 40 consolidated city-county governments across the U.S. in areas such as Denver, Colorado, Jacksonville, Florida and Louisville, Kentucky. These consolidated governments have demonstrated improved efficiency in service delivery, lowered administrative costs, and made better use of taxpayer dollars in comparison to their non-consolidated counterparts.

This proposed consolidation is more than just a structural change – it is a significant step towards a more responsive, efficient, and effective local government that meets the needs of its citizens. It's high time we adapt, innovate, and prioritize the collective growth of our community, instead of sticking to outdated modes of governance.

I implore you to support the merger, which would usher in positive changes that benefit all residents, and promote government efficiency. Please sign this petition as a call for unity and progress. Let us consolidate and bring together the City of Trenton and Mercer County under one government and usher in a new era of streamlined public service.
