Conserve the Green Space at Foster and Elston
The Issue
The plot of land on Elston and Foster, owned by the Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church, is currently a wide-open greenspace, comfortably sheltered from the busy streets by a few large, old, beautiful trees that have been growing there for decades. It supports birds, absorbs rain to decrease flooding, and has been a perfect place for the kids to play and enjoy nature.
However, the current plan seems to be to replace this greenspace with yet another patch of concrete and buildings, for another Dunkin’ Donuts. People can already buy Dunkin’ Donuts or Subway just 500 feet away.
So much living soil has been replaced with lifeless concrete. We work together to find a way for the church to be able to change their plans, so that this soil can remain. We will be in contact the church in hopes to work with them and hopefully, find them another buyer for the land if they must sell it— an organization that will use it in a way that really benefits our community and ecosystem. Fundraising may be needed if this kind of organization doesn't have as much money as a large chain like Dunkin Donuts.
