How Change Happens — A Personal Note and a Powerful Update

There have been three defining moments in my life where I’ve seen how real community change happens.

The first was a trail-building project designed to support economic development in a remote area. It required approvals from all levels of government - including municipalities far removed from the region. The effort was massive. So was the ignorance we faced along the way.

The second was a unifying project built around a petition. We went from municipality to municipality, breaking down barriers one conversation at a time. The dismissiveness was loud - but so was the outcome. It worked.

Now, here we are again.
The issue is different - but the pattern is familiar.
The noise, the doubt, the pushback - none of it is new.
And it doesn’t slow the effort down.

This work isn’t easy. But it’s always worth it.

Fires, Facebook, and Forward Momentum
In July 2025, Highway 14 was shut down not by a car accident (which did happen) but by two separate brush fires, cutting off access, Sooke, Langford, Colwood, East Sooke, Shirley, and Jordan River. Emergency crews were incredible - and thankfully, both fires were brought under control.

But what if they hadn’t made it in time?
What if they were stuck behind another crash, or construction delay, or just day-to-day gridlock?

We can’t keep relying on luck.

This Is No Longer Just a Petition — It’s a Mandate
Because of you, we’re now closing in on 4,000 signatures - and climbing.
We’re not just asking for change. We’re organizing it.

Here’s what’s new:

📝 Your Input Needed
Got an idea? A story? Lived experience from your commute, your business, or your emergency response?
We want to feature it. This site belongs to everyone who travels Highway 14 - we are connected!

What’s Next?
We’re exploring something bold: bringing together actual road builders - the people who move dirt and lay pavement - to sit down with a map and show us what’s possible.
No planners. No politicians. Not yet.
Just practical, boots-on-the-ground knowledge from people who know this work - and this land.

That part is coming. But right now, the most powerful thing we have is you - your voice, your story, and your signature.

Let’s keep the momentum going - sign, comment, email, SHARE!
Let’s hit 10,000 signatures.
Let’s build something real - together.

Bring it. I’m ready. Will you join me?
- Susan
