Stopping victim-centered, trauma-informed, and Start by Believing investigations sometimes feels like a game of Whack-a-Mole. You put out one brush-fire, and another one pops up!

So here's the latest: Last month the House of Representatives passed a bill, HR 1620, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), that tells investigators to use victim-centered and trauma-informed methods. The bill makes no attempt to hide its pro-accuser bias.

• The bill defines victim-centered as asking questions of a complainant “in a manner that is focused on the experience of the reported victim.”

Now, HR 1620 has been forwarded to the Senate. We expect the Democrats will introduce this bill, exactly as passed by the House.

So our main hope lies with Republican Senator Joni Ernst -- pictured above -- who is expected to introduce her version of VAWA in the next week or so. So please call Sen. Ernst, tell her to be sure to remove any victim-centered or trauma-informed provisions from her upcoming bill!
