In July, we told you about the bogus investigation of former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder -- pictured -- which concluded he had committed sexual assault against a Virginia Commonwealth University student. What vile acts had he committed? He allegedly touched the leg of, and kissed a woman without her consent.

But Wilder fought back, releasing phone and work records revealing flaws in the accuser's story. No surprise, the campus investigator cherry-picked the evidence and did not mention these inconsistencies in her report.

Late last week, Wilder announced that a university review panel had reversed the finding of responsibility and cleared his name on the matter.

Wilder also criticized the university for its lack of fundamental fairness:

  • "To date, I have not been properly notified of this matter going to the senior-level official. So much of this process has been in the dark and has revealed policy violations. There remains no consistent process by which the university investigates and makes findings with respect to grievances.”

Well done, Governor Wilder.
