Several months ago we launched this Change.org petition, designed to bring public awareness to the problem of so-called "victim-centered" methods like Trauma-Informed, Start By Believing, FETI, and the like.
Then End Violence Against Women, International got wind of our petition. They were not pleased.
So EVAWI launched a counter-petition titled, "Sign On If You Support Victim-Centered and Trauma-Informed Responses To Sexual Assault". The petition sternly warned:
- This petition was written to respond to recent efforts to discredit these evidence-based practices and viciously malign those who follow them. Today more than ever, we believe it is vital to speak out against those who use false or misleading information to attack national organizations, police departments, prosecutors’ offices, colleges, and universities, for supporting a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to respond to disclosures of sexual assault.
So months later, where do things stand?
- Our petition has....3,388 signers.
- The EVAWI petition has.....480 signers -- see attached image.
Which means SEVEN TIMES more persons support fairness and truth over biased, "victim-centered" approaches. YAY TEAM!
While we're celebrating, why not share this petition on your own Facebook page or on Twitter? Who knows, maybe we can get to 3,400 signers by midnight tonight! Yippee!
