In 2000, Stanley Mozee and Dennis Allen were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a 70-year-old minister in Texas. Nineteen years later they were exonerated after evidence showed the police and prosecution had concealed evidence. In addition, DNA tests failed to confirm their involvement in the crime and witnesses recanted key testimony -- see attached article.

Concealment of relevant evidence is one of the hallmarks of a "victim-centered" investigation.

In this case, Dallas police detective Richard Berry failed to disclose the fact that two jailhouse "snitches" had been promised reduced sentences in return for testimony that Mozee and Allen had committed the murder. No surprise, detective Berry did not mention that key fact during the trial.

Nineteen years behind bars, thanks to the misconduct of an unethical police detective and prosecutor. This travesty should never have happened.
