The Republican repeal bill is back and its threat is greater than ever. Once again, the protections of the Affordable Care Act are under a direct assault. The new amendment makes the Affordable Care Act repeal bill even worse by threatening the law’s key protections for people with pre-existing conditions, allowing states to • Let insurers charge people higher premiums based on pre-existing conditions • Eliminate the law’s essential health benefits requirements that guarantee coverage for things like mental health care, prescription drugs, and maternity care This is on top of the bill’s existing harms that would give huge tax breaks to the wealthy and strip Medicaid funding for the most vulnerable communities.
