On October 19, 2025, my children and I experienced a life-altering moment that no family should endure. We were involved in a car accident at the intersection of Main Street, Stewarts Corners Road, Sutton Road, and County Route 57 in the heart of Pennellville N.Y. caused by a driver failing to heed a stop sign. This incident, while devastating, is only one of many that occur at this troubling intersection, highlighting the urgent need for change. 

Currently, this intersection operates as a two-way stop, which insufficiently manages the flow of traffic and jeopardizes the safety of all who traverse these roads daily. The lack of adequate traffic control measures has led to countless near-misses and accidents, causing great concern for the community's safety.

To ensure the well-being of our residents, commuters, and visitors, I respectfully request a comprehensive traffic safety evaluation. This assessment should consider the volume of traffic, the frequency of accidents, and the visible inadequacies in the current traffic control measures. The primary recommendation is to convert this intersection into an all-way stop, providing a balanced and safer flow of traffic.

Research from reputable transportation safety studies indicates that all-way stop intersections significantly reduce the risk of accidents by clarifying right-of-way rules and slowing down the speed of travel. Implementing such a change at this location can prevent future accidents and protect the lives of those in our community.

We must prioritize the safety of our roads to prevent further harm. Let us not wait until another family suffers a preventable tragedy.
