Condo Strata Council Member Management Reform
The Issue
There have always been an unprecedented amount of injustice and wrong-doings stemming from the current flawed system of the condo strata council member management scene in the provinces of Canada. For example:
- council election fraud
- council member collusion with condo strata management company and strata agents to bring about injustices to select owners and residents solely based on their own personal prejudices
- strata corporation contingency reserve fund management fraud
This petition calls for the real estate industry in every province of Canada to address the following issues in the condo strata management field (to bring true and thorough reform to this area of our lives that impact many Canadians):
- develop methods and mechanisms to increase condo strata corporation governance transparency (such as legislating laws and regulations to enable a mandatory annual independent financial and management audit for every strata corporation) to foster accountability to every owner and resident
- develop methods and mechanisms to encourage greater owner and resident participation in strata corporation management (such as perhaps get rid of the existing "elected" but often times hand picked by colluding strata management company strata council members)
- develop up to date voting mechanisms
- develop methods to air and screen strata corporation meetings while protecting the privacy of owners and residents
- develop government legislations and regulations to enforce the minimum requirements set forth in strata building common area maintenance and upkeep - to ensure that what's written on paper is indeed enforced
There are many more improvements that are not outlined here in this petition. We hope that the existing regulatory bodies will be taking up their rightful responsibilities and duties to work on this area, so that we will not need to continue to voice our concerns ourselves through independent third party channels.
