The Future of Rail in Derry - Public Meeting - This Wednesday

Thank you for being one of the 1,300 people to sign the Phase 3 rail petition in its first week. The phenomenal response shows how passionate people are about securing better infrastructure for Derry & the North-West.

The latest news from DFI is that they now have no intention at all of completing the Phase 3 works - never mind in 2027 (See news article here : https://www.derryjournal.com/news/politics/derry-line-going-well-so-no-phase-3-plans-dfi-1-8965761 It's therefore more important than ever to put them under pressure on this key issue.

'Into the West' have organised a public meeting for this coming Wednesday (26th June) to look at the Future for rail in Derry and the North West. The meeting will have a number of speakers outlining a positive vision of the role rail could play here - promoting economic development, jobs and tourism, whilst also helping to tackle congestion, air pollution and climate change.

Special Guest Speaker at the meeting will be Chris Norton from the Borders Rail Campaign. Their grassroots organisation successfully campaigned for the re-opening of a 30 mile & 9 station stretch of abandoned rail in the rural Scottish Borders in 2015. It has been a huge success for that region ever since - both in transport and economic terms (see https://campaignforbordersrail.org

The meeting is 7pm-8:30pm at the Holywell Trust Building, 10-14 Bishop Street, BT48 6PW, and is open to everyone. Please do come along to hear how enhanced rail provision could boost the North West City Region, and how you could help the campaign to make it happen.

Yours in Rail,

Steve Bradley

P.S. Please share the petition with as many people as possible, to keep pressure on the DFI & local politicians to complete the essential Phase 3 works to our rail service : https://www.change.org/p/complete-phase-3-works-to-derry-belfast-train-line
