Thank you to everyone who came to the Into the West public meeting on 'The Future of Rail in the North-West' last Wednesday. A packed room at the Holywell Trust heard speakers outline the past, present & potential future for rail in the Derry area. In particular - our guest speaker from the Borders Rail Campaign gave a fascinating talk on how they successfully got 35 miles and 9 stations reopened on a rural rail route that had been abandoned in 1969. Interestingly - all of the towns along that route are a fraction of the size of Strabane or Letterkenny. If they can do it there - no reason we can't here !
On Tuesday, Into the West are presenting to the Council's key 'Governance & Strategic Planning Committee' - to persuade them of the need to include ambitious rail proposals in the various strategies being developed for the North-West City Region.
It would be a huge help if we could get this petition to over 2,000 signatures by the time of that meeting. We need less than 200 more names to do that, & it would show the support that exists for rail in this area.
Will you help us hit 2,000 signatures ? Just forward this petition to ONE friend or family member who hasn't already signed it. If everyone did that we could double the signatures on here overnight.
Thanks again for signing our petition, and for your support for better rail in this area. We have a strong message to sell, and with your help we will secure the kind of rail service that Derry and the North-West deserves.
Yours in Rail,
Into the West
