Compel The Fresh Grocer to Address Their Noise Pollution Issues
The Issue
I am writing as part of an Oakdale, NY community, significantly affected by the disturbing noise levels emanating from The Fresh Grocer supermarket's outdated equipment. This problem is deeply personal to me and my wife, a recent conqueror of Lymphoma who has been prescribed a stress-free environment by her doctor as part of her recovery. Our peaceful time in our backyard is constantly disrupted making her recovery more challenging than it needs to be.
We started our backyard project 4 years ago right before COVID, so naturally it was delayed. Then last year my wife was diagnosed with Lymphoma, she is young and healthy and she has never had prior medical issues. After 5 months of Chemotherapy, it wasn't easy, but she beat it. This year we are starting over, she is healthy and we just finished the backyard and it's beautiful. The day the yard was finished, the Fresh Grocer turned on their 20 year old inherited HVAC system that is in desperate need of an upgrade. It is a constant 24/7, high pitch fan with metal rattling pointed right into our new backyard. We approached the store manager and tried to appeal to his good nature, he was not interested and not receptive to our plea. His answer was: It's very expensive and it's very old, but they cannot do anything about it.
Besides our personal concerns, this noise pollution is a communal issue, affecting the tranquility and quality of life for numerous Oakdale residents. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, noise pollution is harmful to public health by causing stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing loss, sleep disruption, and lost productivity. It is, therefore, a matter that should be addressed urgently.
The equipment used by The Fresh Grocer is clearly outdated. Modernizing their systems could potentially reduce noise pollution significantly, providing a much-needed respite for my wife and others similarly affected in Oakdale. Many of the benefits of modern, quieter equipment should be considered an investment in a vibrant, peaceful, and receptive community.
Supermarkets like The Fresh Grocer should respect the neighborhoods they operate within. Respecting communal spaces means striving to minimize noise pollution. We are not against their operations; we promote responsible behavior that values and enhances our community.
Let's urge The Fresh Grocer to update their equipment and take necessary measures to cut excess noise. Our health, well-being, and tranquility depend on it. Please sign this petition and stand together for a quieter, healthier Oakdale.
