The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, who reside in or outside of Lincoln Township, respectfully submit this petition in opposition to the proposed closure of a portion of Holder Road. We believe this decision would set a troubling precedent and negatively impact the community’s infrastructure, access, and long-term connectivity.

We believe Holder Road has served an important purpose in the community for many decades. It remains a key route for public use and emergency services. As with other county roads in the area, Holder Road is publicly maintained and supported through taxpayer funding, making its continued availability essential for public use and access throughout the region.

We believe that closing this section of Holder Road would lead to serious disruption. Redirecting vehicles to other roads, particularly through the intersection of Highway 14 and ZZ, which is already known to be hazardous and the site of multiple accidents, would only increase safety risks. Such a closure would likely lead to greater congestion, longer travel times, and delayed emergency response—consequences that would negatively affect many residents and pose risks we should not take lightly.

Additionally, the turn from Kerr Road onto ZZ is especially hazardous due to limited visibility, making it more prone to accidents in that direction, while the reverse turn from ZZ onto Kerr also poses risks. With increased traffic being rerouted onto ZZ, there is a heightened potential for more accidents at both the Kerr and 14 intersections, further compromising safety in the area.

Based on local knowledge and long-standing community use, Holder Road has served the public for generations. It has been a reliable and well-traveled route for as long as any living residents can remember, providing a safe and efficient pathway for daily travel. We believe it continues to play an important and necessary role in our daily lives today, offering a dependable route for residents, farmers, students, public use, and emergency services.

We respectfully urge county officials to not consider the proposed closure. Vacating any portion of Holder Road would not serve the public interest and would result in disruption and negative impacts to the surrounding communities that rely on it.

Thank you for your time.

Concerned residents surrounding and residing in Lincoln Township.
