REQUESTED -  A meeting with slow street city planners has been requested on May 26, 2026. It will take the city 10 days to reply. Keep those signatures coming so we are prepared to find a reasonable solution.

While we support safe streets, the current implementation has created significant unintended consequences and added frustration to everyday commuters:

Traffic Displacement: Overflow vehicle traffic is now congesting surrounding residential streets.

Aesthetics: The temporary barricades detract from the visual character of our neighborhood.

Resource Allocation: City field staff have shared our concerns regarding the high maintenance costs of these structures. They are not slowing down traffic they are only rerouting and prolonging daily commutes through other streets (sometimes narrower and with more parked cars)

Safety Hazards: We are seeing dangerous conflicts near local high schools, where cyclists and students navigating drop-off zones frequently experience near-misses due to a lack of shared road compliance.

Emergency and Construction Vehicles: Have had problems turning through the narrow barricades. This includes school buses.

Our community relies heavily on vehicle commuting, and we feel the current infrastructure disproportionately impacts drivers without a balanced increase in cycling volume. We would like to meet to discuss balanced solutions, including equitable road regulations (such as commuter-hour licensing or training for cyclists) to ensure fairness and safety for all road users.

This petition is for citizens who are impacted daily by the barricades, no entry, direction changing signs that have filled our beautiful East Vancouver Neighborhood. Taking away parking from residents and businesses.

Please help us find a reasonable solution to this madness. Sign the petition and help save East Van.

Call 311  or Email slowstreets@vancouver.ca to share your frustration with these barricades and other road closures.

An article from 2024 that proved it didn't help back then and still doesn't help now, yet the city proceeds with spending unnecessarily.
