We, the undersigned citizens of Junction City/Geary County, hereby petition the Commissioners of Junction City, Kansas and Commissioners of Geary County Kansas to immediately cease all and any form of communication/agreements with any agent(s) or representatives wishing to place a slaughterhouse/meatpacking operation within the boundaries of Junction City and or Geary County Kansas.

The Citizens of this community are acutely aware of the effects a slaughterhouse/meatpacking plant would have on our quality of life. Some of those quality-of-life issues are as follows, however, this list does not represent an all-inclusive list of issues that would affect the quality of life.

1.      Increase in crime rates which are well documented when slaughterhouse/meatpacking plants come to a community.

2.      The smell and odor that comes from hauling cattle to slaughterhouse/meatpacking plants along with the smell and odor that emanates from a slaughterhouse plant.

3.      Water quality in which there is well-documented cases of polluted surface water and groundwater from slaughterhouse/meatpacking plants.

4.      The toll an increased indigent population has on hospitals and schools.

5.      The impact it has on local social services.
